Former India captain Virat Kohli’s eatery, One8 Commune, has been into hot water after Bengaluru’s Cubbon Park Police filed a charge against it. The eatery allegedly neglected to provide a designated smoking area.
Police have charged the institution under several articles of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), which governs public smoking. This is not the first time Kohli’s restaurant has gotten into difficulty; a FIR was filed in June for operating after hours, and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike issued a notice in December for failing to secure a fire safety No Objection Certificate.
Kohli has attracted criticism from cricket fans after being heard sledging young Musheer Khan during the Indian Premier League (IPL) Qualifier 1 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). Kohli informed Musheer, who came in to bat as PBKS’ Impact Player, because he had lately served beverages to his older teammates.
Some fans thought Kohli’s sledging was too rough for someone making their IPL debut. Others, however, defended the veteran, claiming that Musheer was merely getting a taste of what’s in store for players making the jump to the big stage.
However, Kohli did gift Musheer his bat after the match. RCB won the contest by eight wickets, chasing down a 102-run target in 10 overs.
