The Hundred, a new cricket tournament, debuted in 2021. One of the franchise league’s most popular teams is the London Spirit, which is owned by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), which recently named former England captain Eoin Morgan to its board of directors.

The franchise has also added a new investor in the Tech Titans, a group of Silicon Valley technology entrepreneurs led by Nikesh Arora, CEO of cybersecurity firm Palo Alto Networks. The business offered £144.55 million for a 49% interest in the franchise.

Eoin Morgan addition might be a significant plus, considering he previously led the franchise in the tournament’s first two seasons.

In addition to Eoin Morgan, the MCC has nominated Rob Lawson, its chief executive and secretary, and incoming committee member Julian Metherell to the London Spirit board, but has yet to choose a fourth director. Metherell emerged as a major figure during the investment process and was personally praised by Titans chairman Mark Nicholas for his assistance in post-investment negotiations.

Performance of London Spirit in The Hundred

While some prominent names are on the London Spirit team, the men’s team has yet to win a championship. The franchise’s finest performance came in 2022, when they finished third in the tournament after losing the eliminator to the Manchester Originals. The last two seasons have been unsatisfactory for the team.

Speaking of the women’s team, Heather Knight led the franchise to its first title last year. While Knight was the team’s leading run-getter with 271 runs at an average of 45.16, English leg-spinner Sarah Glenn took the most wickets with 13 at an average of 17 and an economy of 6.80.
