Mumbai Indians (MI) produced a massive 228/5 in the blockbuster Eliminator battle of the IPL 2025 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh after deciding to bat first, giving Gujarat Titans (GT) a difficult challenge in their quest for a position in Qualifier 2.

MI’s score was primarily driven by their ace opener Rohit Sharma’s effort, which came after the batter received two lifelines early in the innings. The experienced Nagpur native scored 81 from 50 balls, including nine fours and four sixes. He reached his fifty in just 28 deliveries, putting tremendous strain on the GT bowlers. Despite reducing his run flow after his half-century, Rohit ensured MI had a comfortable lead by the time he fell in the 17th over.

Opening alongside Rohit, Jonny Bairstow also scored a magnificent 47 off 22 balls. The pair put on an 84-run partnership for the first wicket in just 7.2 overs. MI’s Suryakumar Yadav (33 off 20) and Tilak Varma (25 off 11) ensured they kept attacking. While skipper Hardik Pandya’s cameo (22* off 9) helped the five-time champions score 68 runs in the final five overs.

The Gujarat Titans bowling unit laboured under pressure. Gerald Coetzee had a disappointing match, conceding 51 in just three overs. Mohammed Siraj (1/37) and Sai Kishore (2/42) also contributed, although the leaked information was extensive.

“I posted a fantastic score there. After watching the game last night, there was an intriguing shift in how we approached it. “Good cricket shots,” Bairstow, the wicketkeeper-batsman, said on air following the innings.
