In the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians (MI) batsman Suryakumar Yadav has reached a significant milestone by surpassing 4000 runs. This season, the MI middle-order hitter has been playing at an exceptionally high level. At the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 27, he quickly struck 54 runs off 28 balls against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

The Orange Cap for the 2025 Indian Premier League is currently held by the right-handed batsman.

Suryakumar Yadav has amassed 427 runs at an average of 61.00 in 10 innings.

He is renowned for his ability to shoot shots in all directions and can easily locate openings to score goals. In 2012, he featured in just one IPL match while making his debut for MI. After being acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2014, he became a successful finisher by routinely hitting boundaries in the final overs. After being acquired by MI for the 2018 IPL, he has been a vital member of the team, continuously putting up impressive performances all through the IPL seasons.

“It feels incredibly special to be wearing this orange headgear for the first time in a long time. Even though it’s incredibly hot outside, hitting 200 or more is excellent from a batting perspective, so I was thrilled when we lost the toss. Suryakumar Yadav remarked during the innings break, “It’s a good score, and I feel the wicket is a little slow. I feel it is going to be challenging out there for their batting line-up. Let’s see how it goes.”

The fastest IPL player to reach the 4000-run milestone (by balls)

In just 2714 balls, Suryakumar Yadav became the third-fastest batsman to reach the 4000-run mark in the IPL. The record for scoring 4,000 runs in the fewest deliveries is held by South African star AB de Villiers, who is followed by Chris Gayle, the opener for the West Indies. Australian batsman David Warner is ranked fourth in the top five, while former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina is ranked fifth.
