After 3007 days, Karun Nair was removed for a four-ball duck on Day 2 of the first Test between England and India at Headingley. In a disappointing ending to a promising event, he returned to the pavilion.
The visitors’ 105th over ended with Karun reaching out a Ben Stokes delivery that bowled full outside the off stump. However, Ollie Pope caught the ball well at cover as he leaped to his left and hung onto it like a football custodian.
After a seven-year wait for a Test return, Karun Nair goes for a duck in his first innings back.

Karun Nair was Stokes’ third wicket, and India’s fifth batter to fall.
Following Karun’s dismissal, two wickets fell: Rishabh Pant (134 off 178) and Shardul Thakur (one off eight) as lunch was called after Stokes took his fourth wicket in the form of the latter. India managed to score 95 runs in the first session.
India resumed the second day at 359/3. Shubman Gill and Pant had high expectations at the outset of the day. While Pant reached his sixth century during the morning session, Gill was the first to tumble, falling just short of 150. The skipper departed for 147 out of 227 deliveries.
