Saurabh Kumar moves to Andhra from Uttar Pradesh ahead of upcoming domestic season

Saurabh Kumar, a left-arm spinner, has announced his transfer from Uttar Pradesh to Andhra Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) have both approved the amendment, which is now awaiting final clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The 32-year-old has been a well-known figure in the home circuit for numerous years. The Uttar Pradesh native has 324 wickets in 79 first-class matches, with an average of 26.45. His stats also include 25 five-wicket hauls and eight ten-wicket match hauls. Prior to relocating to Uttar Pradesh, he made his Services debut in 2014.

Saurabh Kumar has also been on the verge of joining and leaving the Indian national team,

Having been named to squads for domestic and international tours, including series against England, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Though he is yet to make his India debut.

“I’m delighted to play for Andhra. I am looking forward to the upcoming season. Saurabh told that he hopes to steer Andhra to the Ranji Trophy final and, at the very least, the format title.

Meanwhile, the ACA accepted the measure during its Annual General Meeting in Vijayawada on June 8. A senior ACA official verified the transfer, revealing that only a few paperwork remained. “The relocation has been approved, but a few procedures remain. “We will write to Abey Kuruvilla for the BCCI approval,” stated an ACA official.

Notably, the deal has the support of Andhra’s senior players, including captain Ricky Bhui, Hanuma Vihari, and KS Bharat. Meanwhile, Andhra had a mixed domestic season in 2024-25. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), the team won five of six group-stage games but was eliminated in the preliminary quarterfinals by Uttar Pradesh. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT), they won four of seven games but were unable to advance to the knockout stage. Their Ranji Trophy season ended with only one win in seven matches, totalling 13 points.
