Match 69 of the IPL 2025 (Indian Premier League) between the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) appears to be one of the season’s most important fixtures. After Match 63 determined all four playoff teams, this is the only match between two previously qualified teams.
Punjab Kings’ chances of finishing in the top two fell as they were defeated by Delhi Capitals in Jaipur. Shreyas Iyer’s fifty sparked Punjab’s innings, which also featured cameos from Prabhsimran Singh and Josh Inglis. Mustafizur Rahman, Kuldeep Yadav, and Vipraj Nigam all claimed crucial wickets in the dying overs, but Marcus Stoinis rose to the occasion. Stoinis scored an unbeaten 44 at the death to propel PBKS over the 200-run barrier.
DC’s chase was a true team effort. KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis delivered a solid start, but Harpreet Brar responded in the middle overs. Karun Nair and Sameer Rizvi then took it upon themselves to steer the chase. Even when the needed rate appeared out of reach, Rizvi found limits at critical moments to keep DC in the hunt and eventually beat them in the last over.
MI’s most recent match was an easy victory over DC at the Wankhede Stadium. MI started slowly, but Suryakumar Yadav stabilised matters in the middle overs. He and Tilak Varma kept MI consistent till Naman Dhir joined Yadav. The two scored a stunning 48 runs in the last two overs of the innings, propelling MI to a total that was clearly above par.
DC’s pursuit never got started. The Capitals lost three wickets during the powerplay itself. Vipraj Nigam played a resilient and explosive hand, but his cameo proved ineffective. Mitchell Santner and Jasprit Bumrah took turns cleaning up the middle and bottom of the order, propelling Michigan into the playoffs. The MI-DC game established MI as the last club to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs, while DC was the last team eliminated.

Top player battles to watch in PBKS vs MI, Match 69 – IPL 2025
1. Suryakumar Yadav vs Yuzvendra Chahal
Ace leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was rather inexplicably left out of PBKS’ last game, but his good record against Suryakumar Yadav might tempt them to bring him back. So far in the IPL, Yadav has made 83 runs off 71 balls at a strike rate of 116.90, while being dismissed thrice at an average of 27.67.
2. Shreyas Iyer vs Jasprit Bumrah
Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer is among a limited group of batsmen who have a very strong record against the elite bowler. Iyer has scored 64 runs in 46 balls with a strike rate of 139.13 and has only been removed once by Jasprit Bumrah in the IPL.
