Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) broke their long trophy drought by winning their first Indian Premier League (IPL) title. They achieved this historic feat by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs in a dramatic IPL 2025 final on Tuesday, June 3 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first. RCB opened with Phil Salt and Virat Kohli, with Salt making an exciting start before falling to Kyle Jamieson thanks to a spectacular catch by Iyer.

Bengaluru’s Mayank Agarwal (24) and skipper Rajat Patidar (26) had promising beginnings but were unable to turn them into significant scores. Kohli kept the innings going with a calm 43 before being removed by Azmatullah Omarzai. Late contributions from Liam Livingstone (25) and Jitesh Sharma (24) helped RCB reach a modest total of 190 runs.

PBKS bowlers were disciplined, with Arshdeep Singh (3/40) and Kyle Jamieson (3/48) leading the attack and keeping the opposition batting under control.

In response, PBKS openers Priyansh Arya (24) and Prabhsimran Singh (26) got out to a solid start, but their early dismissals altered the momentum. Romario Shepherd’s key breakthrough to remove skipper Iyer swung the game in RCB’s favour. Josh Inglis scored 39 from 23 balls, but it wasn’t enough for PBKS.

Under duress, the RCB bowling team rose to the occasion and struck frequently, slowing the chase. Krunal Pandya was excellent, returning figures of 2 for 17 in four overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also had a game-changing over, taking two wickets in one over. Shashank Singh batted valiantly for PBKS, scoring 61 off 30 balls, but the team fell short of the mark.

Under Patidar’s leadership, RCB won by six runs and grabbed their first IPL championship, capping an 18-year wait and providing a memorable night for their fans.
