Mayank Yadav, the Lucknow Super Giants pacer, is poised to go to New Zealand to speak with medical professionals after his return to action in the IPL 2025 (Indian Premier League) was cut short due to a persistent back ailment. Notably, he is anticipated to choose the same path as India’s standout bowler Jasprit Bumrah in 2022.

Bumrah was examined and operated on by experts in New Zealand. Even during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, the veteran pacer sustained an injury during the final Test match in Sydney, and his reports were forwarded to the same doctors in New Zealand.

Mayank Yadav’s career has been hampered by injuries since the beginning. After being selected by LSG in the 2022 IPL auction, he missed both that season and the following due to fitness concerns. In IPL 2024, he finally got to showcase his talent, bowling at blistering pace and made a dream debut against Punjab Kings in Lucknow, bringing up 3 for 27 from four overs.

He followed up with another three-wicket haul against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, becoming the first player in IPL history to earn two Player-of-the-Match accolades in his first two games. Unfortunately, the season was again cut short by a side injury after just four games. Regardless, his efforts earned him a spot on the Indian team.

Injury woes continue for Mayank Yadav post NCA rehab stint

Ahead of IPL 2025, Mayank was one of the important players retained by LSG. However, after missing much of the 2024-25 domestic season due to a back injury and returning to IPL 2025 in mid-season, his fitness was closely monitored. He featured in two matches, against Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings, picking up two wickets but averaging 50.

Meanwhile, LSG mentor Zaheer Khan mentioned that they were following a strict routine in consultation with the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru to make sure the pacer remains fit. Unfortunately, Mayank’s body takes up the load. After just two matches, he was ruled out of the IPL with another back injury.
