During his time as India’s bowling coach, Bharat Arun observed Kuldeep Yadav’s development up close. The former India pacer now wants the wrist spinner to leave an indelible imprint on the next five-match tour of England, which begins on June 20.

Arun believes that wrist spinners have always been successful in England, even on damp pitches. The 62-year-old also suggested that Kuldeep take advantage of the rough surfaces.

“Wrist spinners have always been effective, particularly in England. Perhaps even at first, when the surface is damp, wrist spinners can benefit. Also, the roughs that the bowlers make. However, using the rough is a separate art. It’s not only about bowling. Shane Warne is probably the first person that comes to mind. “I believe Kuldeep has the skills to succeed in England,” Arun remarked.

Kuldeep Yadav has played 13 Tests, taking 56 wickets at an average of 22.16.

He debuted in the game’s longest format in 2017. The Uttar Pradesh spinner has largely served as a backup, with Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel being preferred above him. However, with Ashwin’s retirement and Axar’s absence from the squad, Kuldeep may receive opportunities in the United Kingdom.

India will enter the series with a very inexperienced bowling group. Jasprit Bumrah is expected to lead the pace attack, although he will only play three games to minimise his workload. Ravindra Jadeja, on the other hand, would be expected to play an important part as a spin bowling all-rounder. Mohammed Siraj will need to step up because the other frontline pacers, Prasidh Krishna and Akash Deep, have not played much international cricket. Arshdeep Singh, the other specialist pacer in the team, has yet to make his debut in the format.

“If you look at this bowling attack, yes, it is relatively inexperienced, but it’s got huge potential,” Arun, who was upbeat, said.
