Royal Challengers Bengaluru produced an outstanding bowling performance to dismiss Punjab Kings for 101 in 14.1 overs in the first innings of Qualifier 1 of the upcoming IPL 2025 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.

Four of the first six overs of the powerplay produced wickets, as PBKS’ top-order fell against RCB’s disciplined bowling. Except for Prabhsimran Singh (18 off 10), none of the hosts’ top hitters scored in double digits.

The damage was not confined to the opening six overs. Yash Dayal flattened Nehal Wadhera’s (8 off 10) leg stump, leaving them five down by the third delivery of the seventh over, with just 50 runs on the board. Suyash Sharma made an immediate impact after coming on in the ninth over of the innings.

The Shreyas Iyer-led side was in chaos after Shashank Singh (3 off 5) and Musheer Khan (0 off 3) were sent back to the pavilion due to leg-spinner’s bowling. PBKS was 71/7 at the midway point. Marcus Stoinis (26 off 17) retired on the third ball of the eleventh over, which appeared to be the Kings’ lone decent performance during the innings.

Dayal (2/26 in four overs) had met his whole quota by the 12th over. Romario Shepherd, like Suyash and Dayal, struck in his first over and sent Harpreet Brar (four off 11) back. Azmatullah Omarzai (18 off 12) was the last to leave. Josh Hazlewood, who returned, and the leggie each took three wickets.

“We carried out the plans that the coaches given us. Today I felt comfortable [handling the ball]. It seemed like batters did not pick the googly. The discussion indicated that this was a semi-final, but we will treat it as a regular game. “The previous game we played here aided us,” Suyash said after the first innings on broadcast.
