At the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by a narrow margin of 2 runs in the 52nd IPL 2025 match. The home team won for the second time in a row at home and for the fourth time in a row overall. The hitters and bowlers’ timely clutch efforts allowed them to maintain composure and win, earning them a spot in the playoffs.

On a sticky surface, CSK chose to bowl first after winning the toss. During the Powerplay overs, the RCB hitters went crazy at the top and annihilated the CSK bowlers. Virat Kohli scored 62 runs and Jacob Bethell scored 55 after facing 33 balls. Unfortunately, Rajat Patidar, Jitesh Sharma, and Devdutt Padikkal’s poor batting caused RCB to drop from 97/1 after 9.5 overs to 157/5 after 18 overs.

Romario Shepherd then unexpectedly played a stunning knock. The power hitter hit the second-fastest fifty-score in IPL history with a scorching 14-ball fifty-three. Pathirana took three wickets for CSK. CSK got off to a strong start chasing 214. Even though Shaik Rasheed and Sam Curran were dismissed at the other end, Ayush Mhatre and Ravindra Jadeja produced excellent knocks.

Mhatre scored 94 (48) with a brilliant knock. Jadeja’s score of 77*(45) kept them undefeated. Regretfully, RCB secured an exciting 2-run victory thanks to their death bowling. With a 3/30, Lungi Ngidi was the RCB’s best bowler. With the victory, RCB advanced to the playoffs, while CSK maintained their bottom-of-the-table position.
