In Match 57 of the IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by a margin of two wickets, severely hurting KKR’s chances of qualifying for the playoffs. After CSK was struggling at 60/5 in their chase of 180, Dewald Brevis’ 25-ball fifty-two was the game-changing factor.

Earlier, when they chose to bat first, KKR scored 179/6. Andre Russell gave the batting the final flourish with a 38 off just 21 balls, while captain Ajinkya Rahane (48 off 33) supported the effort. KKR got off to a respectable start because to Sunil Narine (26 off 17), but Noor Ahmad finished with an outstanding 4/31, including two wickets in a single over. With a catch and a successful stumping, MS Dhoni was outstanding behind the stumps.

Chennai’s pursuit started off in a lacklustre manner. Urvil Patel, making his debut, played a fast 31 before losing to Harshit Rana, while Ayush Mhatre and Devon Conway left without scoring. In his 25-ball cameo, Brevis launched a counterattack, hitting four sixes and four fours. He hit Vaibhav Arora for 30 runs in the eleventh over, which was his best moment. Shivam Dube and Dhoni, however, brought the score closer to the goal after Brevis was out.

In the last over, Dube (45 off 40) attempted to speed and stumbled while hitting three sixes. With Dhoni at the crease and two wickets remaining, the game came down to eight needed off the last over. To tie the score, the CSK captain took a single and hammered a six off the opening ball. With two balls remaining, Anshul Kamboj finally sealed the victory by smashing Andre Russell over mid-on for four when facing his first delivery.
