Varun Chakravarthy, who played match-winning cricket for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), dedicated his victory against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to his wife and newly-born kid. Importantly, on Wednesday, April 26 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, KKR defeated the hosts by 21 runs to win the IPL 2023 after four straight losses.
With Jason Roy scoring 56 runs off just 29 balls, KKR posted a respectable total of 200 runs thanks to a strong first-inning performance. Captain Nitish Rana (48 off 21) and Venkatesh Iyer (31 off 26) both contributed to his success.
In response, RCB struggled to complete the mark despite Virat Kohli blasting 54 off 37 runs and losing wickets at frequent intervals. By eliminating Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik, and Mahipal Lomror, the 31-year-old put KKR in the driving position. An emotional Varun Chakravarthy attributed his match-winning effort to his wife and his newborn son after the remarkable victory.
Varun Chakravarthy, a great spinner, was responsible for the middle order’s debacle during the chase.
“That is how cricket is played. I scored 49 against CSK in the last game, earning me this honor today. My correctness is my first concern; adding variations is not. I’ve been busy at work. I want to dedicate this to my wife and my brand-new son. After the IPL, I’ll meet him, Varun said as he accepted the Player of the Match trophy at the post-game ceremony.
The spinner from Karnataka is having a great season with KKR so far, taking 13 wickets in eight games. Against RCB in the first encounter at Eden Gardens on April 6, he turned in his best season effort, returning a four-wicket haul for just 15 runs in 3.4 overs.
With three victories, KKR is currently ranked seventh in the points standings and will be eager to maintain momentum. On April 29, Nitish Rana and company will face the Gujarat Titans, the reigning champions, in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
