In the days ahead, the Indian team will reveal their 15-man roster for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Former all-round great Yuvraj Singh has shared his thoughts on who he believes would be the main players for India’s campaign.
Coach Rahul Dravid, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and captain Rohit Sharma are poised to pick the 15-man roster as the May 1 deadline draws near. Many young players from the current Indian Premier League season may get an opportunity to join the squad.
As said by Yuvraj, who was recently selected the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Ambassador and played a significant role in India’s victory in the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup. He identified Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav as key players for India’s prospects of winning their second championship.
“The important player for India, Suryakumar Yadav, has the ability to alter the course of a match in just 15 balls with his style of play. And he is certain that Surya would be essential to India’s success in this T20 World Cup.” The ICC cited Yuvraj as saying.
Yuzvendra Chahal, who has been a potent bowler: Yuvraj Singh
Regarding bowling, Yuvraj underlined how crucial it is for Bumrah to perform at his peak, “I think Jasprit Bumrah is also the key with the bowling,” he stated.
The seasoned bowler supported the addition of Yuzvendra Chahal, a specialist leg-spinner who he believes has been bowling well.
The former all-rounder was overheard stating, “I would like to see a leg-spinner in the squad as well, like Yuzvendra Chahal as he has been bowling well.”
Regarding India’s choices for wicketkeeping, Yuvraj was pleased with Dinesh Karthik’s recent form but advised against selecting the 38-year-old if he is not included in the starting XI. He said that Sanju Samson, who has been playing incredibly well, and the younger Rishabh Pant would be better choices.
“DK (Karthik) has been hitting well at bat, but the problem with DK is that he didn’t get to play when they previously picked him in 2022, during the T20 World Cup. If DK isn’t in your starting lineup, I don’t see the purpose in drafting him. There are two men who are younger and in excellent form: Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson.” Yuvraj came to an end.
In addition to Yuvraj, a number of other cricket players have selected their team for the main tournament, which is set to start on June 1. India is one of the favourites to win the event once more, thus all eyes will be on the right combination of players being chosen to fly to the USA for the competition.
