Former Indian cricket player Sunil Gavaskar explained why he believed 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi should not receive too much praise from both cricket professionals and fans. Following his dismissal for a second-ball duck during the Rajasthan Royals’ encounter against the Mumbai Indians on Thursday, May 1, Gavaskar made these remarks.
Gavaskar underlined the potential of Suryavanshi and implied that rational admiration is more important than anything else.
“You see, he had already made a century against Australia in a youth Test match when he went into the auction, and that was against a really strong assault. The fact that a 13-year-old scored a century against an international team—even if it wasn’t their best team—still demonstrates the boy’s skill. Since then, he has simply continued to talk. Gavaskar told JioHotstar, “I do think that he is someone we shouldn’t praise to the skies.”
He shouldn’t feel pressured to live up to it constantly: Sunil Gavaskar.
In the opinion of the well-known analyst, the young cricket player should focus on honing his inherent skills and not become overwhelmed by the high expectations placed on him.
“We simply get the impression that he smacked the first ball he encountered for a six in this instance, even in his very first game. Therefore, he shouldn’t feel pressured to live up to that every time. “Oh,” will think seasoned bowlers, “he wants to hit the first ball for six?” He may be able to go when they bowl it short. After that, he can become anxious and overthink things,” Gavaskar continued.
In just his third innings for RR, Suryavanshi smashed his way to a sublime hundred (101 off 38) against Gujarat Titans. However, things did not work out the way they did on Thursday. Suryavanshi was dismissed on the second delivery he faced. The youngster was caught at mid-on while trying to go for the big shot over the fielder at the edge of the circle.
