Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah claimed that the administration is considering relocating the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru outside of the city to avoid further occurrences.

On June 4, 11 people were killed and several were injured during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL 2025 win celebrations.

Siddaramaiah expressed great regret for the tragedy and emphasised that the government is seeking a long-term solution. He said that his government is considering moving the stadium to a another place.

“The administration will consider moving the cricket stadium to another location. Such an awful situation should not occur under any government. “This incident has hurt both me and the government,” Siddaramaiah told reporters.

“Five police officers were suspended in this case. Both the intelligence chief and the chief minister’s political secretary have been replaced. “The case has been taken seriously, and appropriate action has been taken,” he said.

The Chief Minister admitted that the government had not acted irresponsibly over the Bengaluru stampede.

He insisted legal actions were taken against people who were responsible for the tragic incident.

“The government has not done anything wrong. This incident is saddening, but no misstep was taken by the administration. Legal action has been taken against those found guilty, so there is no question of embarrassment for the government,” Siddaramaiah conceded.

Siddaramaiah stated that he became aware of the tragic stampede outside the stadium at 5:45 PM on June 4. He also did not attend the event at the stadium, which began around 6:10 PM, but was attended by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.

Recently, Siddaramaiah announced that the compensation for the families of the deceased will be raised from INR 10 lakh to INR 25 lakh. He emphasised that the government stands with the affected families during this difficult time.
