In just 35 balls, Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the fastest Indian centurion and the second-fastest player overall in an innings that stunned the cricket world against the Gujarat Titans. In his maiden IPL season, the young southpaw makes history.

Numerous cricket analysts and players have commended the 14-year-old Samastipur native for displaying his skills with one of the tournament’s most devastating knocks. He has even been likened by some analysts and commentators to Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara. In fact, the “God of Cricket” recently expressed his admiration for the young left-hander’s skill and courageous approach in a tweet about his innings on social media. The “Master Blaster” added that it was the ideal formula for an outstanding inning.

Tendulkar wrote on his official ‘X’ handle, “Vaibhav’s fearless approach, bat speed, picking the length early, and transferring the energy behind the ball was the recipe behind a fabulous innings.”

This knock has now also made Vaibhav Suryavanshi the youngest batter to score a century in the IPL, at the age of 14 years and 32 days. The previous record was held by Manish Pandey, who achieved the feat in 2009 while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against the Deccan Chargers at Centurion.

Other players among the top five youngest centurions include Rishabh Pant (20 years and 218 days), Devdutt Padikkal (20 years and 289 days), and his fellow teammate and opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal (21 years and 123 days), who scored a century in 2023 against the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede, amassing 124 runs off 62 deliveries with a strike rate of 200 in the match.
