During the ongoing match between the Mumbai Indians and the Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 27, Rohit Sharma ripped into Mayank Yadav by throwing consecutive deliveries into the stands. The first delivery, a boomer that drifted down leg side and was missed by the ace batter, was followed by the two maximums.
Rohit Sharma guided the 141 kph delivery over the long leg fence with the first shot, which was more of a swivel.
As the former MI captain used the traditional pull to hit the ball for a 77-meter maximum over deep square leg, Mayank continued to use the same channel and suffered a similar fate.
However, the last laugh went to Mayank, who was participating in his first IPL 2025 match. Rohit, who looked menacing, was removed by the speedster’s slower ball. The slower delivery was being steered towards the off side by Rohit. He was only able to skew the ball to the fielder at short third man, though. For 12 off five, the first batter had to walk back.
By doing this, Rohit became just the third IPL starter to knock two sixes off of his opening two balls of an innings. Only his countrymen Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal have before accomplished the uncommon accomplishment.
Openers to hit two sixes off their first two balls in an IPL innings

- Yashasvi Jaiswal vs KKR, Kolkata, 2023
- Rohit Sharma vs LSG, Mumbai, 2025
Earlier in the afternoon, the visitors won the toss and sent MI in with the bat. The joint-most successful franchise made a couple of changes to their XI. Karn Sharma and Corbin Bosch came in for Mitchell Santner and Vignesh Puthur. As for LSG, Mayank came in for Shardul Thakur.
LSG got the better of MI when the sides had met in Lucknow earlier in the season. The hosts claimed victory by 12 runs in a game where MI failed to track down the 204-run target. Digvesh Rathi was awared the Player of the Match accolade for his miserly four-over spell of 1/21. Interestingly, Rohit did not feature in this game.
