The Ekana witnessed one of the best chases by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), securing a top-two finish and an edge in the playoffs. The stars of the night were Jitesh Sharma and Mayank Agarwal, who kept the Men in Red in the game and helped them cross the finish line by chasing down the Lucknow franchise’s big total of 228.

The efforts of the two batsmen were lauded by former RCB wicketkeeper-batsman Robin Uthappa, who stated that the squad has gained a lot of momentum following the great win in the playoffs.

Uthappa properly complimented Jitesh’s explosive and destructive innings in the game, as well as Agarwal’s essential supporting role, as the RCB stand-in skipper tore up the LSG bowlers. Uthappa also reminded the three-time IPL finalists that there is still a lot to do in the competition and that they should appreciate the momentum they have built following their historic victory.

“It’s a terrific win for RCB. This win will generate a lot of momentum for RCB. However, the job is not yet completed. One of the things RCB needs to do right now is appreciate the momentum they’ve built as a result of their captain’s spectacular, mind-boggling knock. I thought that was a tremendous knock—full of determination and grit, which resulted in glory,” Uthappa said exclusively on JioHotstar.

“Mayank Agarwal’s knock was also fantastic. He was an excellent support for Jitesh and never stopped pushing the envelope. He may not receive much notice, but that inning was essential to RCB’s triumph. “No amount of praise can compensate for that kind of contribution,” the 2014 IPL winner stated.

Highest chase by RCB in IPL history

The impressive partnership of 107 off 45 deliveries between Jitesh and Mayank made sure this became a record-breaking chase, as this went on to become the highest chase by the RCB in IPL history. The last time the Bengaluru franchise chased down a 200+ total was last season against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
