At the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 27, during the Lucknow Super Giants’ match against the Mumbai Indians in Match 45 of the 2025 Indian Premier League, Rishabh Pant was fined for maintaining a sluggish over-rate. Since it was the team’s second over-rate infraction of the current Indian Premier League season, the LSG captain was fined INR 24 lakh for the recent offence.
In accordance with the tournament’s Code of Conduct, the remaining members of the XI will be hit with “either INR 6 lakhs or 25% of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.” Axar Patel, Sanju Samson, Rajat Patidar, Riyan Parag, Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, and Pant are the other captains who have been punished for slow over-rate offences in the 2025 Indian Premier League. The game was ultimately lost by LSG by 54 runs. The 216-run aim established by MI was not successfully pursued.
The team captained by Rishabh Pant was ultimately knocked out for 161 in their allotted 20 overs.
During the afternoon game, the bowling attack did not work well. From LSG, not a single bowler was frugal. Ayush Badoni (35 off 22) and Mitchell Marsh (34 off 24) were the only batters to score 30 runs or more.
After as many games, LSG was on 10 points following the previous setback. With four group-stage games remaining, their net run-rate (NRR) is -0.325. The next games in LSG’s schedule are all in the evening; they will play Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 18, Gujarat Titans on May 14, Punjab Kings on May 4, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 9.
As far as Pant’s form with the bat is concerned, this season has been one to forget up until now. In nine innings so far, the wicketkeeper-batter has been able to put together only 110 runs at a strike rate of 98.21. For his side to keep their playoff hopes alive, LSG will be anticipating much more from him as far as batting duties are concerned.
