Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), their opponents in Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL) Match No. 59, are in very different positions in the competition. Only 1% of LSG’s players will make it to the playoffs, whereas RCB has the same chance of losing in the league stage of the competition.

LSG has currently losing three straight games, the most recent of which was in Dharamsala versus Punjab Kings. Prabhsimran Singh got the perfect amount of help from his teammates as he hammered LSG’s bowlers all over for a vigorous 91. Every batsman’s effort helped PBKS reach a very high total.

Arshdeep Singh eliminated the dreaded top three of LSG during the actual powerplay. That was LSG’s clue that the game was finished. Both Abdul Samad and Ayush Badoni started, but their knocks only made PBKS’s victory margin smaller.

Nevertheless, RCB has now won four straight games, with their most recent victory over CSK in Bengaluru being a humdinger. Jacob Bethell and Virat Kohli both scored aggressive fifties, but the innings ultimately slowed down. Romario Shepherd’s over of 33 runs off Khaleel Ahmed was the only one that got RCB moving again. Shepherd ultimately hit the final ball of the innings to record the fastest IPL fifty by an RCB player.

Despite RCB’s early gains, CSK was resurrected by Ayush Mhatre and Ravindra Jadeja. Before Mhatre was dismissed by Lungi Ngidi six short of a maiden hundred, the two essentially saved their team from the abyss by themselves. In contentious circumstances, Ngidi also defeated Dewald Brevis off the next ball. Up to the final over, the teams continued to avoid each other.

Yash Dayal bowled an outstanding first half, giving up just two runs and dismissing MS Dhoni. He was then forced to defend 15 runs in the final over. On the next one, Shivam Dube hit a beamer into the stands, giving CSK some breathing room as they moved from needing to chase 13 runs in 3 balls to only chasing 6 in 3. All three only gave up singles to Yash Dayal, and RCB won by two runs.

In the IPL 2025, RCB has won all six of their away games thus far. They will be hoping to complete the flawless away season in their final away game of the year.

The pitch has been departing from its typical minefield-ish ways from a few years ago, so a higher total could be on the cards.

Key Player Battles in LSG vs RCB, Match 59 of IPL 2025:

1. Rishabh Pant vs Bhuvneshwar Kumar

In this tournament, the LSG captain has been in essentially his worst form, but he will welcome the chance to play Bhuvneshwar, especially in the closing moments. 94 runs in 41 balls at a strike rate of 229.26 have been scored by Pant in the IPL, and he has only been removed once from Bhuvneshwar’s pitch.

2. Virat Kohli vs Shardul Thakur

Kohli on the other hand, is in some very good form in IPL 2025 having made fifties in each of his last four innings. This form will boost his confidence shaping up against a bowler who has hardly given him any trouble in the IPL before. Kohli has made 72 runs in 44 balls at a strike rate of 163.64 against Thakur while being dismissed just once. Kohli has similar numbers against Avesh Khan as well.
