Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) scored 278/3 in the first innings against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday, May 25, after Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bowl first.

The Travis Head-Abhishek Sharma pair once again got the Orange Army off to a flying start. The flashy southpaws scored 92 runs in the first seven overs before Sunil Narine got the better of Abhishek.

Heinrich Klaasen was promoted to No. 3 ahead of Ishan Kishan, and the move paid off handsomely. Head hit 76 off 40 balls, forming an 83-run partnership with Klaasen off 35 deliveries. After Narine dismissed the Australian opener again, Klaasen took on the responsibility of leading the Sunrisers to a stunning score. He scored the equal third-fastest century in IPL history, reaching three figures off just 37 balls in the 19th over.

Ishan Kishan (29) and Aniket Verma (12*) made valuable contributions, but Klaasen’s one-man performance left KKR reeling. Klaasen finished unbeaten on 105 from 39 balls, including seven fours and nine maximums.

“Very pleased; it has been a long season of disappointment. Fortunately, I followed my processes and found my form. The franchise had invested a significant amount of time and money in playing this style of cricket, and it was now up to us to take up the challenge. (On the pitch) I wanted to hit every ball for six; Narine had a period that made it difficult, but I tried to adapt. The hard lengths are a little more challenging to play.

“(On hitting at number three), I’m a situation player; that’s the plan in the dugout. If we lose a wicket after the powerplay or at the end of the powerplay, I simply come in. If we lose a wicket early on, things do not go as planned. “For me, it’s just a number; everything depends on the team situation,” Klaasen remarked during the mid-innings break after wrecking havoc in Delhi.
