Jon Lewis has resigned as head coach of UP Warriorz ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 season, capping up a three-year tenure with the organisation. The Warriorz announced the announcement in a social media post on Friday, June 27.

“You believed in us from day one. Throughout the highs, learnings, and all in between. Thank you, Coach Jon Lewis, for leading with heart, calm, and conviction. “You’ll always be a part of the Warriorz Family,” the UP Warriorz Instagram post stated.

Jon Lewis joined the UP Warriorz for the first season of the WPL in 2023, and he led the team to the playoffs in their first season.

They were, however, eliminated in the Eliminator by eventual champions the Mumbai Indians. In the 2024 and 2025 seasons, the UP squad finished fourth in 2024 with three victories in eight games and finished last in 2025, with the same win-loss record.

Despite having a quality roster, injuries and poor performances hampered their seasons. Notably, captain Alyssa Healy missed the 2025 season due to injury, and Deepti Sharma was elected stand-in captain. Lewis was also sharing responsibilities as head coach of the England Women’s national team, a job he assumed in November 2022. Lewis resigned as England captain in March 2025, following the team’s humiliating 16-0 loss to Australia in the Women’s Ashes and a group-stage exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, during his reign, UP Warriorz achieved the WPL record for the greatest team total (225/5 vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru) earlier this year, owing to Georgia Voll’s perfect 99. Following Lewis’ departure, the squad will look for a new coach ahead of the WPL 2026 season.
