The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team lost the opening Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, giving the hosts a poor start to the ongoing Test series between India and England.
India had set themselves a goal of 231 runs to win the first Test, but England’s bowling assault was too strong for the hosts, as they were bowled out for 202 runs, losing by a margin of 28 runs.
Speaking on the historic victory, Ben Stokes, the captain of England, stated that the team’s victory over India was their greatest since he had taken the captaincy.
“Since I assumed the captaincy, our squad has undoubtedly had many wonderful moments; we have enjoyed many outstanding wins and participated in some incredible games. In the post-match presentation ceremony, Stokes stated, “But given where we are and who we’re playing against, I think this victory is 100% definitely our greatest triumph since I’ve been captain.”
Extremely happy for all those concerned: Ben Stokes
Additionally, Ben Stokes proclaimed himself to be a superb game observer and disclosed that he had picked up a lot of knowledge from his team’s opening innings in Hyderabad. He also praised Tom Hartley’s effort, which was essential to his team’s victory over India by bundling them out.
To be completely honest with you, this is my first experience leading the squad and serving as captain in these circumstances. Ben Stokes stated, “I’ll be honest; although it may not seem like it, I’m an excellent game observer.
“Well, that was obviously the case, but it was also very exciting for all of them. Ollie Pope’s first game back following shoulder surgery; Tom Hartley’s maiden performance of coming in and taking nine wickets in the entire game—it’s an amazing effort by everyone, even the people who might not necessarily have the rewards. He said, “I think everyone has helped us to a fantastic victory.
