In a game with a shortened structure, head coach Daniel Vettori stated that these kinds of mistakes are inevitable. Ten days before, SRH had defeated the same opponent in Bengaluru, hitting 287/6 to establish the best team total in IPL history. In response, though, RCB bundled SRH out for 171 in the rematch.
On Thursday, April 25, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by a margin of 35 runs. The middle order, which also struggled to dominate on a batting-friendly track, was under extreme strain as SRH’s in-form opening duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma failed to deliver in the powerplay while chasing a goal of 207 runs.
“We were happy with the results we achieved. We felt that 206 was a decent score. The group had a lot of confidence due to previous results,” Daniel Vettori stated during the post-match press conference.

Additionally, we are aware that the openers set the stage, and while off days are a part of playing cricket, today was one of them. We didn’t anticipate that they would play 14 games, and regrettably, we didn’t receive any assistance during the halfway point. There are no easy games in the IPL; therefore, even though it was a difficult defeat, we recognise that every side can defeat any team,” he continued.
Our attempt to set totals was successful. Daniel Vettori
Daniel Vettori acknowledged that a different strategy might be needed for SRH’s upcoming match against the Chennai Super Kings.
“We need to reevaluate our pursuing strategy after successfully setting totals. We play a pretty talented team in Chennai, so I guess our best course of action is to just forget about this match and accept that things might be different on the Chepauk pitch and that we might need to approach things differently,” the head coach of the Super Kings stated.
Jaydev Unadkat finished with a 3/30 figure, and Vettori commended his efforts with the ball. “I think when the surface suits him and to be fair to him he probably gets more bounce and can stop the ball on the wicket than most,” he stated.
Despite winning the game, RCB is still at the bottom of the standings with four points and needs to win all of their remaining games to have a remote chance of making the playoffs. On the other hand, with 10 points, SRH is in third place.
