India and England’s Test series is well underway, but the hosts are already in jeopardy following a poor five-game start. In the opening test of the series, the visitors, led by Ben Stokes, produced an incredible effort and won brilliantly.
The Indian squad is facing yet another blow in the form of the loss and the impending second match, which may cause veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to miss the next match of the series.
It is now doubtful if the 35-year-old will play for India in the second Test in Visakhapatnam after suffering an injury on the fourth day of the first Test. The all-rounder is presently awaiting the results of his scan from Mumbai; according to a report, he may not play in the second Test but should return in time for the third.
Cricbuzz cited an informed source as stating, “What we understand is that it is a hamstring pull and not tear, so he should be fine for the third Test certainly if he can’t play the second.”
I will chat with physio when I return. I haven’t had a chance to speak with him yet. David
Rahul Dravid, the head coach of India, too shared his thoughts on the matter. He disclosed that he hasn’t had a chance to talk to the physiotherapist yet, but he plans to do so shortly in order to gain more information. Therefore, it is anticipated that the team management will only decide whether or not to play Ravindra Jadeja in the upcoming test after fully appreciating the severity of his ailment.
I must admit that I haven’t gotten a chance to talk to the physiotherapist yet. I’ll talk to him when I get back and find out what the matter is,” Dravid said.
If Ravindra Jadeja is unable to play in the second Test, the Indian squad will try to find a replacement. Though the team might lose out on an extra batter if they choose to start Kuldeep Yadav in lieu of the injured player,. Notably, India will be eager to improve after losing the first Test when they play England in the second Test of the current series on February 2 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Vizag (Visakhapatnam).
