The first T20I of the five-match series between India and the West Indies ended in favour of the home team.
But more so than the victory, the incident involving Yuzvendra Chahal that happened in the closing moments of the run chase was the game’s most talked-about event.
On the first delivery of the 20th over, Romario Shepherd removed Kuldeep Yadav, leaving India needing 10 runs to win in 5 deliveries. Yuzvendra Chahal then prepared to bat. It soon became clear, though, that captain Hardik Pandya and head coach Rahul Dravid preferred that Mukesh Kumar make his debut at position number 10.
Chahal attempted to return to the pavilion, but the umpires prevented him from doing so. Chahal, who was forced to bat at number 10 after walking out, made a single off the opening ball, but Arshdeep Singh was unable to complete the run. On social media, the incident’s footage has been widely shared.
