Like a duck to water, Yashasvi Jaiswal has adapted to international cricket. On the first day of the second Test in Visakhapatnam, the Mumbai hitter, who made a century in his debut Test match on the West Indies trip last year, hit his first century at home against England.
In the first innings of the first Test, he was removed after a remarkable knock of 80 off just 74 balls; hence, he was denied a century. But in Visakhapatnam, he didn’t let the chance pass him by, as he reached the enchanted three-figure threshold with a six off Tom Hartley.
In the first Test, Yashasvi Jaiswal attacked the English bowlers from the first ball, but on Friday, he started the match quite cautiously and only chose the bad deliveries to score his boundaries. With 89 balls, he reached his first fifty runs. He played more flamboyantly in the second session, needing just 62 balls to reach his second fifty. On his way to his century, the gifted young player hit three sixes and eleven fours.
The veterans in the commentary box complimented the opening batter’s application, particularly throughout the first part of his inning. His disparate knocks in the first two Test matches demonstrate his versatility as a batsman, as he can adjust to changing game conditions. Indian supporters will be hoping he stays at the wicket for an extended period of time during the opening session, helping the team score a large amount of runs.
From Day 1, the Hyderabad pitch helped the spinners. That being said, the pitch in Visakhapatnam is a different story. In order to put pressure on the hitters, spinners have had to bowl regularly in favorable spots. On a wicket like this, England will have to bat last, and a large first-inning total for India might help them put pressure on Ben Stokes and company.
