Paul Farbrace has confirmed that Jofra Archer, the best fast bowler in the world, will go straight to the Ashes after the Indian Premier League 2023 is over. Notably, the England international missed last season because of an injury, but he is finally ready to make his debut with the Mumbai Indians. He will also play a big role since Jasprit Bumrah won’t be able to play this season.
Paul Farbrace also said that Jofra will have to bowl longer spells in the nets to get ready for the upcoming Ashes, which will start on June 16.
“If everything stays the same, I think he will go right into the Ashes after the IPL. The plan for Jofra in England is for him to go play in the IPL. “I think their plan is that he’ll bowl longer spells between IPL games to get his overs up and make sure he’s ready to play,” Farbrace was quoted as saying by India Today.
“England isn’t stupid. They know that it will be very important to win the Ashes to keep players like Jofra in good shape. I know a lot of people will say, “He should play at least two four-day games to be ready for a Test match,” but the preparation and work that the medical teams do around these players is outstanding,” said the 55-year-old.
Notably, England really wants to win back the Ashes this English summer because they lost the last big match by 4-0. Under their new leader, Ben Stokes, they played some great cricket in 2022, and they can only hope to keep it up.
The Australian batters can also make things hard for them in the middle, which is why England needs Jofra Archer to be healthy. The fast bowler has the power to change the way the game goes. So far in his career, the 28-year-old has played 13 Test matches and taken 42 wickets, with an average of 31.04.
