In the first T20I of the series at Trinidad’s Brian Lara Stadium, rookie Tilak Varma made a sensational catch to get rid of Johnson Charles.
When Charles made the decision to face Kuldeep Yadav in the eighth over of the game, he attempted a slog sweep with the hopes of scoring a run. Although it was intended to land in a no man’s land, the 34-year-old was unable to establish the right connection.
Varma, though, rushed from the deep mid-wicket area for around 15 metres while scanning the field in order to make a potential catch, then dove to his left to make a superb catch, to put it mildly. Ian Bishop, a commentator, was astounded by his efforts and praised him for taking a great middle catch. The 20-year-old, in particular, shown outstanding presence of mind as he warned other adjacent fielders not to approach and also eventually managed to snag the ball, despite it being far away.

Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal each select two as the Windies score 149.
Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal finally played in the first T20I after missing the entire ODI series. The 33-year-old had a strong return, picking up two wickets along the way. In addition to taking two wickets, Arshdeep Singh also displayed excellent ball control.
On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav’s impressive run of form continues as the left-arm wrist spinner only managed to take one wicket while being incredibly frugal. While Mukesh Kumar, who is playing in his first T20I, was unable to pick a wicket, he still appeared sharp and has the potential to be an important member of India’s T20 World Cup team, which is expected to begin on June 3, 2024.
While other West Indies players struggled to get going, Nicholas Pooran (41) and skipper Rovman Powell (48) stood out for their grit. West Indies put up 149 runs thanks to their efforts, and the Hardik Pandya-led team is certain that they can finish the job.
