The Indian U19 team is preparing for their match against Australia U19 in the U19 World Cup final, where they want to win the championship. While a number of young players have given their all to help the Men in Blue get to the competition final, captain Uday Saharan has stood out above the rest.
Uday Saharan has amassed the most runs in the U19 World Cup, scoring 389 runs at an average of 64.83 throughout six games, including three fifty-scores and a century. His highest rating is 100. It’s also important to remember that this is India’s third participation in the U19 World Cup final and their fifth overall against Australia.
Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has undoubtedly taken notice of him due to his performances. The 37-year-old said that Uday Saharan was the tournament’s best discovery and praised him for his poise, drawing comparisons to players like Rinku Singh.
“A lot of people have already dubbed Uday Saharan the World Cup discovery; he is the first captain to lead his team in runs scored. In a video posted to his YouTube page, Ashwin stated, “I am impressed by Uday Saharan’s ability to win matches rather than his run totals. He plays with such composure.”
“Something similar to what I recently told about Rinku Singh. Money cannot be used to purchase it. That is deeply engrained in Uday Saharan. He exudes a calm confidence. He’s a confident, collected, and serene person,” he continued.
With 81 runs in 124 deliveries in the tournament’s semi-final match against South Africa, Saharan demonstrated his batting prowess. With the help of Sachin Dhas, who scored 96 runs in 95 deliveries, India defeated South Africa by two wickets to secure their spot in the summit match against Australia.
