As the previous management committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) prepared to resign, Chief Najam Sethi instituted significant structural changes. Recognizing the need for a new approach and increased efficiency, Sethi made a number of notable appointments and implemented key promotions within the board, thereby ensuring that the PCB has a strong leadership team to propel it forward.
Usman Wahla was promoted to the esteemed position of Director of International Cricket, which was one of the most significant appointments. Wahla was entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing and administering all aspects of Pakistan’s participation in international cricket tournaments by virtue of this crucial position. Wahla would play an integral role in shaping Pakistan’s international cricket efforts, from player selection and team administration to strategic scheduling.
In addition to Wahla’s appointment, several PCB members were promoted and given additional responsibilities. Adnan Ali, a seasoned cricket professional, has been appointed Senior Manager of International Cricket Operations. In this position, he will be responsible for coordinating various operational aspects of Pakistan’s international cricket activities. Raza Rashid, an authority in media management, has been tasked with expanding PCB’s media presence as General Manager of the Media Department. Bilal Qureshi has been appointed General Manager of Umpires and Referees for Pakistan Cricket, with responsibility for preserving high umpiring standards.
Moreover, Shoaib Naveed, who took a three-month sabbatical to work for American Cricket, appears to have been appointed PSL General Manager.
The Balochistan High Court halts the election process to select a new PCB chairman.
Importantly, the new chairman must authorise the implementation of these decisions and appointments. A two-judge bench of the Balochistan High Court issued an injunction on Monday that postponed the elections for the new chairman.
Despite this, the PCB remains committed to assuring a smooth transition and effective governance while keeping the best interests of Pakistan cricket in mind. The new leadership team, as well as the prospective new chairman, will be instrumental in defining a path to success for PCB and Pakistani cricket in general.
