On Friday, April 27, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) played in their rematch of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL). CSK lost by 32 runs. The MS Dhoni-led team dropped to third place, while RR rose to the top of the points standings.
Shaun Tait, a former cricketer for Australia, was perplexed by CSK captain MS Dhoni complete absence from the game’s lineup. He claimed that in order for CSK to have had a chance to pursue the target, he wanted Dhoni to assume leadership throughout the game.
“I was like, “Can someone get out?” watching MS Dhoni sit on the boundaries when they needed sixes.” Tait spoke with ESPN Cricinfo after the game.
Deep Dasgupta, a former India wicketkeeper and hitter, concurred with Tait’s remarks. He claimed that bowlers seem uneasy when Dhoni is around.
“When MS Dhoni is batting, there’s this dread factor. “It doesn’t matter if he’s on 40 or 50; no matter how good a bowler you are, you’d still be thinking, ‘it’s MS who’s batting there,'” Gupta added.
RR defeated CSK by 32 runs to take the top spot in the points standings.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, RR set a 203-run target for the visitors. Despite their best efforts, the four-time IPL champions were unable to complete the task of chasing down the goal, due to the RR spinners. From the beginning, CSK batters had trouble with the bat, but Shivam Dube’s (52 off 33) late cameo gave CSK some encouragement. CSK were held to 170/6 in 20 overs thanks to the efforts of RR’s Adam Zampa, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Kuldip Yadav, who each claimed three wickets.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, the RR opener, had struck a scorching half-century as RR amassed a mammoth 202/5 in 20 overs. He won the game with a winning 77 from 43 balls, winning Player of the Match. Tushar Deshpande scored twice for CSK, while Ravindra Jadeja and Maheesh Theekshana each took out one opponent.
