Sydney Thunder beat Sydney Sixers by 4 runs (D/L method)

That's all we have from this rain-affected match. Sydney Thunder have moved to the top 4 on the table, equal on points with Adelaide Strikers but down on the NRR. Sunday will bring our way yet another double-header. First up, Hobart Hurricanes will be hosting Adelaide Strikers at 1445 local (0345 GMT) and then later in the evening at 1810 local (0810 GMT) Brisbane Heat will be crossing swords against Melbourne Renegades. Do join us for all the action. Cheers!
CHRIS MORRIS IS CHOSEN FOR THE MAN OF THE MATCH AWARD! Says that he is quite happy with the win. Adds that he is pleased with them in being in the top four as it is the business end of the tournament. On the Hughes' run out, Morris states that he took a chance and that paid off. Finishes by saying that it was a very tricky wicket to bat on and is delighted with the way they played.
ALL OVER! The two captains are seen shaking hands. Not possible to carry on as the rain refused to make way. SYDNEY THUNDER WIN BY 4 RUNS (DLS method) to take two vital points and jump up on the points table. It was a clinical bowling show by them aided by some reckless batting from the Sixers that set up this win. The pitch was a bit sticky but the touring team failed to combat that and their shot selections were quite questionable. Sydney Thunder did lose their openers rather cheaply but since there wasn't much scoreboard pressure, they managed to stay within the limits of the DuckworthLewisStern method.
Update 2208 local - Here comes the official word from the match officials. One of the umpires, Tony Wilds informs that 2223 local is the cut-off time and if they don't start by then, it's game over. Praises the groundsmen for putting in the hard work and hopes that the crowd will be treated with some more cricket.
Moises Henriques is caught for a quick chat. Starts by saying that it was a sticky wicket early on but at the same time they have to learn to combat that. Tells that the pitch was under covers and it was holding up a bit, especially in the early half. Shares that once the ball got older, it got easier to bat on and the pitch also dried up. On the plan to pick two spinners in his XI, Moises replies that they are two good spinners who are capable of manipulating any batting order. When asked whether he would have liked to see the pitch after it was uncovered, Moises says that both the skippers saw similar conditions before the toss, so it's fair. Adds that today they are at the wrong end and on another night, it could have been the Thunder. Smiles and says that his fatherhood is going good and it's overwhelming, a proud moment for anyone. Informs that it isn't raining heavily but the drizzle is quite persistent.
Update 2147 local - PLAYERS ARE GOING OFF! It continues to drizzle and after waiting for a while, the umpires have decided that enough is enough. They have called for the covers. The Thunder are 4 runs ahead on the DLS count.

OUT! Bird draws first blood! A golden duck for Alex Hales and it's a big blow to the Thunder, bigger to those who picked him in their fantasy team. Terrific delivery by Bird. He delivers it on the shorter side around middle and off, hurrying up the batsman. Hales opens up in his stance as he attempts to glance it on the leg side. But it takes the top edge and balloons towards point. Silk calls for it and runs across to his left to complete the catch with a full length dive.

We are ready to get the run chase underway! The Sixers' players are making their way out to the ground to defend 76. Will they be able to do it? Alex Hales and Usman Khawaja follow them out. Jackson Bird will begin the proceedings for the Sixers.
It's a pretty paltry total and the Thunder will be backing themselves to win the reverse fixture and go on level points with Adelaide Strikers who are at number 3. Do the Sixers have it in their bowling to defend this minuscule total? Do join us in a short while to find out.
Sydney Thunder were brilliant with the ball. They kept on bowling good lines and picked wickets at frequent intervals. All their bowlers were impressive with Chris Morris and Daniel Sams standing out the most. If it was not for the 45-run partnership between Justin Avendano and Ben Dwarshuis, the Sixers would have struggled to even cross the 50-run mark.
End of the humiliation for the Sydney Sixers! They avoided the embarrassment of getting the lowest ever BBL score but still, this is their second worst effort with the bat in the League history. It was a very lethargic approach from the top order of the visiting team as they kept throwing away their wickets by playing some reckless shots. There was some movement on offer for the seamers but certainly it's not a 76-run pitch.

OUT! RUN OUT! Sixers are all out and it ends a terrific performance from the Sydney Thunder in the field. Fullish ball outside off, Lyon looks to lift it over the off side but gets a top edge which lands safely between the deep cover and the incoming cover fielder. The batters take off for a couple but Alex Ross is quick to the ball and throws it to the bowler. Morris whips the bails off and O'Keefe is well short. Tactical Time-Out! 26/6 and it's quite evident which team is on top. The Thunder are ruling the roost and the Sixers have no one but themselves to blame for their lethargic approach with the bat. Another 8 overs left and the way it's going, it's hard to believe that the visiting team will use all of them. 57 is the lowest ever BBL score, can Sixers avoid the humiliation of breaking that record?

Good length ball close to off, Vince pushes it from the crease to covers. It rolls in the gap and they cross for a single.
The Thunder players are waiting near the boundary line. They are upbeat at the moment after a strong beginning and would be hoping to build on this fantastic start. Now, their players are walking back on the ground. MATCH HAS BEEN REDUCED TO 18 OVERS! Gurinder Sandhu to complete his unfinished over...
Update 1930 local - The covers are coming off! The light drizzle has stopped, not entirely though. We are hopeful for a resumption sooner rather than later. In 7 minutes time from now we will be getting underway again is the official confirmation. Stay tuned.
Update 1922 local - It has started to drizzle and the umpires are not taking any chances. They have called for the covers. Not looking too bad currently as the players are just waiting to leave the ground. Out come the covers to hide the playing area. The drizzle is picking up its intensity now as well. The forecast is not very promising, so let's just keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best. Stay tuned for latest updates.

OUT! Sandhu strikes first ball! What a start for the Thunder! The Sixers are in early disarray. Gurinder comes up with a fuller length ball in the line of the stumps. Philippe shuffles across to flick it across the line but misses. He is trapped right in front of the wickets and the umpire has no hesitation in lifting his finger after the lbw shout is made. Big blow to the team in Magenta as their in-form batsman walks back cheaply.
Gurinder Sandhu to run in from the other end.

OUT! RUN OUT! Very unlucky for Daniel Hughes! Bat got stuck onto the pitch. Short of a length ball outside off, Hughes looks to cut but it takes the inside half of the bat and rolls towards the off side. Hughes wants the single but is sent back. On turning back, his bat gets stuck on the ground making it difficult for him to make his way back to the crease. Morris goes after it and kicks it onto the stumps. No need to even go to the third umpire as Hughes was well out of his crease. Disappointing start for the Sixers. The replays further suggest that even if his bat would not have stuck on the ground, he would have been gone as he was late to turn and Morris was quick to the ball.

WEATHER - The forecast is not looking that great for this game. It is not raining right now, but there is a heavy band of rain sweeping across Sydney. Can it come after 4 hours? In fact, as we type that, it has started to drizzle. The main cover is on.
Are we ready, folks for the second game of the double-header? It is the Sydney derby at the Showgrounds Stadium. The last time these two teams met, it was a thrilling tie which was won by the Sixers in the Super Over. What will be tonight's result? Whatever it be, let's hope for a cracker.
