Adelaide Strikers beat Brisbane Heat by 82 runs

Right then! End of a really one-sided game. This was a crucial match for both teams, but more so for the Heat, as they were in 6th place. Drop to 7th now. It is going to be a string of double headers over the weekend. Just 8 matches left in the league stage! Friday, 22nd December, 2020, sees Hobart Hurricanes take on Perth Scorchers, at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne, from 4.05 pm local (0505 GMT). And later, at 6.45 pm local (0815 GMT), in Adelaide, we shall witness a cracking Sydney Derby. Join us for those games. Until then, ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
ALEX CAREY HAS BEEN NAMED THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH. Carey says that it is a very big win and it gives their campaign a very good shape. On himself opening along with Weatherald, Alex says that they have tried everything in this tournament and in this game, they just tried one more thing, which they have done in the past. Praises all his batsmen for playing well. Lauds Michael Neser for impressing on return. Hopes to build some momentum from now on. Is looking forward to doing well on Sunday and Monday (back-to-back games against Sydney Thunder).
Earlier, a wonderful batting display by Adelaide, structured around Alex Carey's century, got them close to 200. It was a measured approach, with one man aiming to bat through and the others playing cameos, looking to build partnerships. The Heat were just carved all along the place. They did get back a bit, through Marnus Labuschagne's 2-fer but it was not much.
Like their batting, the Strikers bowled well as a unit. They did not allow the Heat to get away at all and conceded just 3 sixes in the entire inning. Wes Agar was sensational, claiming 4 wickets while Peter Siddle ended up with 3.
A run chase which never looked like a chase. Chris Lynn fell pretty early and then it looked like Test-match stuff on offer. Labuschagne and Denly just could not get going, managing just 2 boundaries between them. That put extreme pressure on the other batters and the innings never got constructed. The thing with Brisbane Heat is, as Ricky Ponting says, they have the potential to beat big teams but when they lose, they lose pretty badly. This was one of those instances.
What a massive win for the Strikers. They move to 4th on the points table, claiming all 4 points from this match but what a boost their net run rate gets. The Strikers are pretty difficult to beat at the Adelaide Oval and they have given a thumping to the Heat.

OUT! CAUGHT! Stunner from Neser. What a catch. Full and around off, Swepson backs away and looks to go inside out. He miscues it but seems to have got enough to clear cover. Not quite. Michael Neser runs back to his left from mid off, dives, sticks out his left hand and plucks the ball out of thin air! The entire Adelaide unit is mobbing Neser. Stunning catch. ADELAIDE STRIKERS WIN BY 82 RUNS!
