Peshawar Zalmi beat Multan Sultans by 6 wickets

So that is it from this game! Another day and another side has chased down successfully. For the first time this season in the PSL, 190-plus has been scaled down and with this win, Peshawar Zalmi get their first win of the season. Multan Sultans' search for a win this season continues. The action in PSL 2021 continues on Wednesday, 24th February as the champions, Karachi Kings take on Islamabad United. That game begins at 1900 local (1400 GMT). Make sure you join us for that one. Till then, goodbye and take care!
Peshawar Zalmi skipper, Wahab Riaz is now up for a chat. Wahab says that when they started to bowl the wicket was good and the margin of error was minimal. Tells they expected 180 but credits them for scoring 190 plus. Credits Imran for his effort as he feels he bowled well and restricted them. Tells they have confidence in the side as they have match-winners in their side. Adds it is very reliving as a captain to see the side chase down such a big total.
For his outstanding innings, Tom Kohler-Cadmore is named the Player of the Match. Kohler-Cadmore says that it was nice as he had complete freedom to play his game. Feels he was lucky early on as he could have got bowled early on but luckily the ball missed the stumps. Tom says that he just tried to give his all for his team be in fielding or with the bat as it is a big part of T20s as fielding can be the difference between chasing 190 and 220.
Mohammad Rizwan, Multan Sultans skipper, says that bowling in the death overs cost them the game. Adds that the bowlers needed to execute the yorkers and that did not work for them. Further says that Shahnawaz Dhani is a skilful bowler but that last over did not go his way. Mentions they were 15 runs short in the last game but in this game, they had a good score to defend.
Earlier in the evening, after being put to bat, Multan Sultans posted the highest total of this PSL season. They scored 193 on the back of a solid 84 from James Vince along with a solid performance by Rizwan, Maqsood and Rossouw. That total in the end did not prove to be enough on a pitch that was a very good one to bat on. Saqib Mahmood was the pick of the bowlers for Peshawar Zalmi picking up two wickets but the real star was Muhammad Imran who was economical and got a wicket as well.
The man who saw Zalmi over the finishing line, Haider Ali is caught for a chat. He says that he is happy with his performance. Adds that he tried to clear the fence and it paid off for him. Mentions batting with Malik helped him a bit as he is an experienced batsman.
It was a tough day for the Multan Sultan bowlers. They were off with their plans and every bowler was expensive barring Usman Qadir. Tanvir, Afridi, and Brathwaite were poor from the start and they all went for over 9 rpo. The young pacer, Shahnawaz Dhani was impressive for his two wickets but was punished in the final over. A disappointing bowling performance from the Multan Sultans and that sees them lose both their games this season. They will be gutted not to have defended 194 on a pitch that had a little bit for the bowlers.
Chasing 194, Zalmi needed to get off to a solid start and that is what Kamran Akmal and Imam-ul-Haq gave them. The right-hander took the attack while the southpaw played second fiddle. Once the experienced Akmal departed, Imam and Tom Kohler-Cadmore ensured that it did not affect their side. They kept the scoreboard ticking with their 77-run stand off 52 balls. Once Imam departed it looked like Multan Sultan would get their way back but Rutherford's cameo of 15 calmed the nerves. There was more twist to come as both Rutherford and Tom Kohler-Cadmore departed in the same over. But Haider Ali's 25 off just 8 balls and Shoaib Malik's 11 off 5 saw the side over the line a bit comfortably in the end.
What a humdinger of a game! Not a game for the faint hearted as it moved from here to there but in the end it is the Peshawar Zalmi who hold their nerves and get over the line one might say a bit comfortably in the end. Fantastic chase by the Zalmi. Commiserations for the Sultans. They scored big but were unable to defend it. Peshawar Zalmi have managed to scale down the highest total of the season with an over to spare.
