Back for the Post-Lunch session. The players are out in the middle. Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer to resume their innings. Ruturaj Gaikwad is not happy with the shape of the ball but the umpire rejects the decision to change it.
...DAY 1, SESSION 2...
Shreyas Iyer came in and he along with Ajinkya Rahane looked solid at the crease adding 23 runs together. The bowlers have not tested Iyer enough with the short balls and we can see that a lot after Lunch. Yash Dayal has also struggled and his inability to swing the ball into the right-hander hasn't helped either. Prasidh Krishna though has bowled excellently with four maiden overs but without any reward till now. Ruturaj Gaikwad might have missed a trick by not introducing spin earlier but we feel that the spinners will play a big part in this game. Join us for the second session at 12.40 pm IST (7.10 am GMT). Also, as we got a delayed start, the second session will go on till 3.10 pm IST (9.40 am GMT).
The toss did not matter as both captains got what they wanted. However, Ruturaj Gaikwad would have been happier at the start with Mukesh Kumar getting a couple of wickets in the same over. Prithvi Shaw missed out once again and Hardik Tamore's promotion up the order did not work as well. They were in trouble at 6/2, but Ajinkya Rahane made his presence felt and brought stability. Ayush Mhatre who is making his debut also looked impressive for his 19 off 35 balls, but he was done in by Mukesh Kumar with a brilliant bouncer in his second spell.
SESSION SUMMARY - 60 runs and 3 wickets in 20 overs! We can say both teams will be happy heading into Lunch. Of course, Mumbai would have liked to lose a couple of wickets less, but after an early scare, they have done well here. The delayed start did take away a lot of moisture from the wicket, but the bowlers can still do well as Mukesh Kumar has shown in this session.
