Islamabad United beat Multan Sultans by 3 wickets

Right! That's all from this game and Super Sunday! Two fine games and PSL is up and rolling nicely now. On Monday, 22nd February 2021, Lahore Qalandars will meet Quetta Gladiators. The action will begin at 1930 local (1400 GMT). Join us for all the action then. For now, it is goodbye from our end.
Islamabad United skipper, Shadab Khan, says that it was their first game and they were a bit rusty in the middle. Tells that they have a depth in their batting but feels they won't be able to get a win like this all the time. Feels that the experience always helps and Gregory did it nicely for the side. Adds that with a win, they have good momentum. Says there was a bit of pressure on him as he was returning after a long injury break.
Lewis Gregory is named Player of the Match for his fantastic show with both bat and ball. He starts by saying that they kind of lost the way in the middle but managed to get the win in the end. Says that he wanted to take this deep. Tells that they played a practice game on this ground and informs that the outfield was fast here. Adds he is pleased with his bowling performance. Tells that the last few overs helped them stop the opposition to post a big score.
Mohammed Rizwan, the Sultans' skipper is in for a chat now. Tells that they put on a good score after having a poor start. However, he feels that they couldn't end the innings on a high. Tells that they made a good comeback a couple of times but the opposition managed to do it better. Adds that the game swung both ways all the time. On the penultimate over that cost them 19, Rizwan says Tanvir is one of the best bowlers and it just didn't pay off for him here in this game but he is someone who can defend 6-7 runs as well.
Alex Hales is caught for a quick chat. He starts by saying that they wanted the top 6 to do the work but is pleased with the win. On expectations before the tournament, Hales says that he has been playing for a long time and he is enjoying his time. Tells that the last two years have been really good for him.
Earlier in the game, asked to bat first, Multan Sultans, put a decent score on the board. Skipper Rizwan led from the front and continued his terrific form on his way to 71. Others around him failed to get going. Brathwaite played a little cameo of 22 off just 14 balls and helped the team get to 150. It was Mohammad Wasim who did the work with a 3-fer for the United. Gregory chipped in with a twin wicket spell. Hasan Ali and Faheem Ashraf too kept things tight and helped the team stop Sultans to a low score by bowling a couple of tight overs in the end. And eventually, that effort meant that they finished the game with an over left.
Multan Sultans were always in the game with the bowlers striking regularly. Afridi was superb for them in his 4-over spell, picking up two wickets. He also ran out Iftikhar with a fantastic throw. Carlos Brathwaite too used his experience nicely and bowled a fine spell of 2/23. However, the penultimate over of the game from Tanvir changed things completely and they ended up on the wrong side.
Chasing the total, Islamabad started nicely with Salt and Hales giving them a decent start. However, once Salt got dismissed, things went down for them. Shadab was the second man to depart when the score was 43 and Hales followed him soon when Afridi rattled his stumps. From 55 for 3, the score soon read 74 for 6. Gregory and Ashraf then did a fine job adding 43. Ashraf fell but Gregory continued. And in the penultimate over of the game, he went bang, bang and hit Tanvir for 19 to seal the deal for his side.
What a fantastic knock from Gregory to finish off the game. He digged in deep and went for the big shots when it mattered the most. He took on one of the most experienced bowler to help his side start the tournament with a win. A cracking run chase!

WIDE! Extra run and Islamabad win. Sohaibullah runs it and bangs it short. It is just outside off. Gregory lets it be. Wided by the umpire. And this is enough for the win. Islamabad United win by 3 wickets.

FOUR! Pumped down the ground! A full ball, right under the bat. Gregory powers it down the ground and it races away to the long off fence. Just two needed.

FOUR! Another boundary! What a knock from Lewis here. A fuller ball on middle and leg, Gregory clips it nicely past the man at short fine leg. No chance for the man at deep square leg either. Islamabad  just a hit away now.

FOUR! Back-to-back boundaries. Gregory is doing it in style here. Just 10 needed off the remaining 9 balls. Short and just outside off, Gregory stays on the back foot and crunches it through backward point to find the fence.
The skipper is having a word with the bowler. He runs all the way to the bowler. They are taking their time.

SIX! BANG! What a blow! Gregory with an important maximum. A short ball, around off, Gregory swivels and nails the pull over deep square leg for a biggie.

Short of a length delivery on off, Gregory looks to pull but gets a bottom edge on this one. It goes safely towards the keeper.
Sohail Tanvir to bowl the penultimate over of the game.
