Earlier in the day, courtesy a quick fire half ton and a watchful innings from Labuschagne, the Heat got to a total which seemed just above par. Perth got off to a good start in the chase but lost their way in the middle overs. Marsh almost single-handedly did get them back into the game but he failed to take his side over the line.
The pick of the bowlers for Brisbane have to be Labuschagne and Swepson. They were the ones along with Laughlin who also had a decent outing with the ball who did nicely in the middle overs. The pacer did take a beating towards the end but one can surely say he did his job.
The middle order failed to make an impact for Perth and that is probably where they lost the game. The start was good and the Marsh too was brilliant with the bat towards the end but they lost wickets in a heap in the middle overs is what cost them the game.
Coming to the chase now, Roy and Livingstone got Perth off to a flier. However, as the ball lost its shine and got softer, run-scoring became difficult. The Heat spinners, Labuschagne and Swepson not only squeezed the runs but also got wickets. The two combined to take 5 and pushed Perth completely onto the back foot. However, then began the Marsh show. He took a few balls to get his eye in but once he did that, he smoked the balls to all parts of the ground and made Perth dug out to believe that they can win it. He was dropped in the penultimate over by Bryant which could have cost Heat the game but it is Laughlin who stepped up and bowled a top-class last over.
Nerve-wracking stuff there! What a start to this triple header! A nail-biter of a game and in the end, it is the Heat who prevail. They make it into the finals and that is why they are all smiles. Take a bow Laughlin, yes 17 is a lot of runs to defend but not when there is tons of pressure on you and not when Marsh is smoking the ball like he was there. It is the experienced campaigner who kept his cool and has taken his side over the line.
