Barbados Tridents beat Jamaica Tallawahs by 36 runs

So that is it from this game! CPL though continues on Thursday as Zouks takes on Patriots and then Guyana play Trinbago. Do join us. Till then, take care and goodbye!
Jason Holder says the guys stuck in long enough, they wanted to bat deep and Mayers was brilliant throughout. Mentions the pitches are tough, they are turning and it is hard to get hold of the spinners, especially wrist spinners. States they need to be flexible, you can't let the wrist spinners bowl at you, they did try to tinker with their batting line-up, it did not work but they are happy with their performance. Ends by saying they have a lot of options with the ball, Walsh was good today and Santner and Rashid are always reliable.
Rovman Powell says Mayers batted really well but that Jamaica did not bowl well in the death overs. Mentions they haven't been able to rotate strike, they need to work on it during the practice session. Reckons Russell will probably be back for the next game and they hope they can even win without him.
Kyle Mayers, Man of the Match, says he feels great about his performance. Mentions it was difficult to bat but he managed the spin well. Further adds he tried to protect his wicket and wanted to stay out there till the end. States that after his injury, he has been given opportunities and is happy that he is doing well. Finishes by saying that they wanted to stick together despite the losses and that they backed their players to do the job.
5 out of the 7 bowlers picked a wicket at least for the Tridents! Santner started things off, Holder supported him well in the Powerplay. Walsh finally had an impressive outing with the ball. Rashid like always, had a good day at the office and Reifer too chipped in towards the end with a couple. Overall, a very good bowling performance by them. Stay tuned for the presentation.
A comfortable win in the end for Barbados! Mayers' knock did actually prove to be the difference! It was because of his knock they got close to 150 which in the end proved to be enough quite easily. Right from the start they were in control. They kept taking wickets and made it an uphill task for the Tridents. It is always a sorry scorecard for the batting side if 7 players have not managed to cross the double figure mark. It is another poor outing with the bat for Jamaica.

OUT! BOWLED! You could see the pressure was building with four dot balls on the trot. Glenn had to do something. It was floated on off, Glenn looks to play inside-out, misses the line of the ball competely. It shatters into the stumps. Reifer would be most relieved after having dropped an opportunity earlier. So, Glenn does not make much use of the reprieve, perishes 3 balls later. Early wicket for Barbados. Just what they would have wanted.

In comes the slider. Glenn gets his bat down just in time and defends it out. Had he missed that, it would have been plumb.

DROPPED! Got to take those. Santner bowls a flatter one around middle, Glenn looks to flick uppishly on the leg side. It goes in the air towards the short mid-wicket fielder, it was tough, but with a below-150 total, you got to take those. Reifer there, leans in to try to pluck that but fails to hold on. Phillips is a very dangerous batsman and it remains to be seen how costly a spill that can be.
We are back for the chase! The two openers, Glenn Philips and Chadwick Walton stride out. Mitchell Santner to start the proceedings.
Jamaica will have to bat really well! They are without Russell and their batting has been really poor. Can the others step up. Barbados on the other hand, will back their bowling to defend this on a wicket which is slow and low. Stay tuned.
For Jamaica, it was once again the spinners who were the stand out. Their pacers leaked runs initially, the spinners got it back, they ensured the bowling side were in control till the 18th over. However, the Brathwaite over changed the momentum completely, 29 runs saw the tide turn into the Trident's favour. They still will be happy they did not let the batting side cross 150.
148, par? Above par? Under par? Can't actually decide at the moment but if you ask me, I would say the Tridents would be pleased with where they have ended at the moment. Especially after they were 90 for 6. They have just the one man to thank and that is Mayers. His knock has single-handedly taken the Tridents to where they are. Had it not been for him, they would have probably not even scored 100. It can well be a match winning score.

SIX! Back to back sixes for Mayers and Tridents! It is problematic for Tallawahs when Mayers gets going like that. Not much of a fault from Brathwaite though, low full outside off, Mayers reaches out and hits this high in the air over the deep point region for a maximum. DROPPED! That is a sitter! Poor cricket all around. A poor ball, followed by a poor shot and that is a poor piece of fielding. A full toss, Santner fails to middle it. It goes straight to Walton at mid off who spills it. Not good for Walton, he has been short on runs and now this poor effort in the field will put him under more pressure.

He's got the wicket of the big hitting Anderson who did find some form in the last game. So another important wicket.

NOT OUT! Charles bat was in the air but it did touch the ground inside the crease initially and then popped up. So a lucky escape for Barbados! This is shorter and on the pads, Hope looks to flick but misses to get hit on the pads. It lobs on the leg side. Charles wants a run and he is off. Hope initially does not take off. Charles then stops halfway down the wicket. Hope finally goes for it and Charles runs to the keeper's end. Edwards gets to the ball but then is confused as to which end to throw it. He takes a moment but then hits the stumps at his opposite end. They take it upstairs and replays show that hesitation from Edwards probably saved Charles.
A run out appeal has been taken upstairs! There was a big confusion between the batters but Edwards too was confused as to which end to throw. In the end he hits the stumps at the keeper's end. Charles is the man in question. Looks close.

Almost! Another lovely delivery to begin with by Edwards. On off and it swings away a little. Charles looks to defend but gets an inside edge onto the pads. There is an appeal but turned down.
We are all set for the action to begin! The players make their way out to the middle. Johnson Charles and Shai Hope are the openers for Barbados. Fidel Edwards to start the proceedings for Jamaica. He got a wicket off his first delivery yesterday, something similar is what Jamaica would love. Here we go...
Nyeem Young who is up for an interview says that he was ready at the young age of 19 to take a CPL contract. Says that his grandfather was very happy that he managed to bag a CPL contract and that he was playing at one of the highest stages in the world. States that he keeps learning with each game and uses his learning in all the coming games. Is happy that he can learn so much from every game. Adds that whenever he gets an opportunity, he wishes to make the most of it.
Barbados Tridents (UNCHANGED PLAYING XI) - Johnson Charles, Shai Hope (WK), Kyle Mayers, Jason Holder (C), Corey Anderson, Ashley Nurse, Rashid Khan, Raymon Reifer, Mitchell Santner, Nyeem Young, Hayden Walsh.
Jamaica Tallawahs (PLAYING XI) - Glenn Phillips(WK), Chadwick Walton, Jermaine Blackwood, Asif Ali, Rovman Powell (C), Nkrumah Bonner, Carlos Brathwaite, Sandeep Lamichhane, Fidel Edwards, Veerasammy Permaul (IN FOR RUSSELL), Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
Jason Holder says it is another opportunity, they need to play well. Further adds they have good quality bowlers, they have two leggies who are good wicket-takers and there is enough quality. States they need to be positive, they have gotten off to good starts but need to kick on from there, the top four batters need to do well. Informs they are unchanged.
Rovman Powell says bowling first is working for them and they want to keep it going. Reckons the pitch spins a lot more and the dew comes in later on and it tends to spin more. Informs Russell is out with an injury. Ends by saying the rest have to step up and deliver the goods.
TOSS - It is Toss time for Match 14 then! Rovman Powell calls a Head. JAMAICA TALLAWAHS WILL BOWL.
Hello and welcome to our coverage of Match 14 of CPL 2020 where Jamaica Tallawahs take on Barbados Tridents. The defending champions have had a very tough time in the tournament, with just one win in the four games that they have played in. To add to their woes, the Tridents have lost the last 4 of their 5 encounters with the Tallawahs. The Tridents do have a tailwind though - the Tallawahs have struggled against spin and that provides an opportunity for Rashid and pack to exploit. For Jamaica, despite the phenomenal batting firepower, they have struggled in chasing down modest targets. It is a good time to press Reset. They have a very powerful bowling attack - both pace and spin. Time for the batting to come good, as a win will put them into the Top 3, in the table. The Toss coming soon!
