Despite the fact that KL Rahul has been a very consistent batsman throughout the history of the Indian Premier League, the season thus far has not been encouraging. The fact that the 30-year-old has scored only 63 runs in three matches is extremely worrisome, particularly since he is expected to fire and lead from the front.
However, former India cricketer Ravi Shastri believes the upcoming match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore could provide KL Rahul with the ideal opportunity to disprove his detractors. Notably, in 12 innings against RCB, Rahul has scored 610 runs at a strike rate of 147.69, so Shastri is optimistic that he can do so once again in the upcoming game.
“I believe he (KL Rahul) will attempt to play a lengthy innings with a swift approach. With Kyle Mayers, Stoinis, and de Kock still to arrive, LSG’s batting lineup is formidable. So KL Rahul can take risks (for big hits at the outset),” Shastri told ESPN cricinfo prior to IPL match number 15.
If KL Rahul receives favorable batting conditions, he can win the game in 5 or 6 overs. Shastri
The 1983 World Cup champion also stated that Rahul is a destructive batsman who can alter the complexion of the game in just five to six overs if he has a suitable batting surface.
“I’ve appreciated watching him bat. If batting conditions are favorable, he can finish the game in 5 or 6 overs if he is a destructive batsman. He can lay the groundwork for his team’s huge score,” Shastri added.
Significantly, Quinton de Kock will play against RCB. The South African international is in phenomenal form and will almost certainly be included in the starting lineup. In such a scenario, Kyle Mayers may fall to third place. On the other hand, the Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman might take over for Stoinis.
