In Match 28 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, April 14, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by eight wickets to return to winning ways in the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). LSG’s bowling attack overpowered them after they were forced to bat first, and they were only able to muster a score of 161/7 in the 20 overs that were allowed to them. For Lucknow, Nicholas Pooran was a standout batsman, and for Kolkata, Mitchell Starc (3/28) was the best bowler.
With a formidable partnership between captain Shreyas Iyer (38 off 38) and Philip Salt, KKR was able to easily chase down the small goal in just 15.4 overs. After their victory, Kolkata held onto second place in the points standings with four victories from five games, while LSG dropped to fifth place with six points from six games.

Now, let’s examine the game’s highlights:
1. In the field, Ramandeep Singh and Philip Salt wear blinders
KKR’s fielders made numerous incredible catches, and their fielding was impeccable throughout the innings. With a full-length dive at point, Ramandeep Singh made the first outstanding catch of the day, dismissing Deepak Hooda. Philip Salt took the second one after Marcus Stoinis’ bat deflected off his pads and stayed in midair for a little, just long enough for Salt to reach out and snag it.

3. Philip Salt completely dominates Lucknow’s bowling
In the pursuit, the KKR opener started his team out quickly and with all guns blazing. Salt restrained the run rate as he smashed Lucknow’s bowlers all over the park, despite losing his opening partner, Sunil Narine, in the second over itself. With 14 fours and three sixes in a match-winning innings of 89* (47) to lead his team home, the 27-year-old scored his second half-century of the year.
