There has never been more fandom for the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024. The fans have gone to great lengths to display their passion, whether it is by teasing Hardik Pandya on the pitch or making fun of one another on social media. However, a tragic incident from Kolhapur’s Hanmantwadi Area, where a fan fight resulted in death, has everyone in a state of shock.
The 63-year-old Bandupant Tibile resident passed away from wounds sustained in an incident during an IPL game. The victim, a Chennai Super Kings supporter, was severely injured as he showed excitement over Rohit Sharma’s wicket during the Mumbai Indians’ recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The fans attacked Sharma with a stick. The event happened on Wednesday night in the Karveer Taluka of Kolhapur district in Hanmantwadi.
This is not how fan wars should ever turn out: Ravi Ashwin
Pandya and Rohit’s supporters have escalated the conflict to entirely new heights. After being moved to Michigan, GT fans carried posters labelling Pandya unfaithful, and he was heckled when he walked into Wankhede Stadium for the toss. Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin of India criticised the actions, urged nuance in the communications, and emphasised that Pandya is an Indian Cricket Team member who represents the nation.
“This is not how fan conflicts should ever end. Recall that these athletes are representatives of our nation. What, therefore, makes a cricket player worthy of jeers? I’m not sure how to understand. Why should a team publicly clarify if fans are so against a player that they boo them? This is cricket, and film culture is very much alive and well. Marketing, positioning, and branding are among the things I am aware of. I concur with everything said. Although I don’t believe in any of this, it’s still okay to partake in it, Ashwin stated on his YouTube channel.

Each other served as mentors to both Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly. Both of these have been captains by Rahul Dravid. All three of these players have experience playing under Dhoni and under Anil Kumble. These athletes were cricket jambhavans (veterans) under Dhoni. Virat (Kohli) was also Vihoni’s coach, he continued.
