Imran Tahir, a former South African spinner, criticized the Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) coaches after their defeat to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the low-scoring IPL 2023 match.
On Monday, May 1, at Lucknow’s Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, the Faf du Plessis-led team defeated LSG by 18 runs.
RCB won the toss and decided to bat first, scoring 126 runs in 20 overs. With one ball left, LSG was run out by 108 runs, failing to bring down the deficit of 127 runs. In this instance, no player scored more than 30 runs while attempting to overtake the subpar score.
Imran Tahir claimed during a Star Sports interview that the LSG players and coaches should both bear some of the blame for their team’s defeat. Everyone was aware that captain KL Rahul was injured and would not bat in the top order, according to the 44-year-old. In light of this, he continued, the batters had to have assumed accountability, and the coaches ought to have talked to the players and developed an appropriate strategy.
“Everyone was aware that KL Rahul was hurt and unable to bat. As a result, Tahir said, their batters should have assumed responsibility and the coaches should have talked to them and created an appropriate plan.
The former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player claimed that, despite being aware of how challenging it was to play across the line in Lucknow, LSG batters were dismissed while attempting to play their shots. He believed that LSG management must have given them the order to play their shots, which he considered to be a crucial oversight. Then he brought up Du Plessis’ strategy, saying that he mostly focused on singles and that generally he is not like that.
“This is where they usually play. The fact that everyone entered and attempted to take shots amazes me. Those shots, in my opinion, weren’t necessary. You may be familiar with Faf du Plessis, who specialized in singles; he is not like that. He continued, “Typically, he plays with aggression and goes for his shots.
I think RCB seems more motivated in this game: RCB received accolades from Tahir Tahir for their performance in the LSG innings. He claimed that their bowlers used their spinners efficiently and bowled to the pitch. He also claimed that Josh Hazlewood received a good bounce and that the fast bowlers utilised the slower ones.
“I think RCB appeared more competitive in this game. Their bowlers utilised their spinners effectively and bowled in accordance with the pitch. Josh Hazlewood received a decent bounce, and the quick bowlers utilized the slower ones, he added.
