After the Rajasthan Royals’ IPL 2025 matchup with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag, one of the game’s most deadly hitters, gave the youthful Vaibhav Suryavanshi some unusual advise. Despite being in control of the game until the 18th over, RR unexpectedly fell by 11 runs. Fortunately, RCB won their first game in the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which is their home field.

Known for his powerful batting, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi struck a six off the first ball of his IPL debut against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

By hammering a 20-ball 34 against LSG, scoring two boundaries and three massive sixes, he made his debut in the world of cricket. Even against RCB, he maintained his six-hitting prowess. The youthful cricket player hit two sixes before being dismissed by the seasoned bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar this time.

During the conversation, Sehwag counselled the young player to maintain his composure and focus on the game. After participating in only one or two matches, he cited multiple situations in which the cricket players lost control of the game. Knowing that you will receive praise for your efforts and criticism for your shortcomings will help you stay grounded. I’ve witnessed a lot of guys who come, gain notoriety after one or two games, and then do nothing because they believe they are now a celebrity,” Sehwag said.

Like Virat Kohli, the former player said Suryavanshi should want to play in the IPL for the next 20 years. He can establish a lot of records in the years to come if he can maintain himself healthy and active. He is now rather young. Everything now depends on how Suryavanshi moves on after demonstrating a great deal of batsmanship in his first two games.

The goal for Suryavanshi should be to play in the IPL for 20 years. Consider Virat Kohli, who has participated in all 18 seasons since he began playing at the age of 19. That’s what he ought to be aiming for. We might not see him next year, Sehwag continued, “if he is content with this IPL, believing that he is now a crorepati, had a fantastic debut, and hit a six off the first ball.”
