Virat Kohli, the batting mainstay of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), made history once more by being the first player to score 9,000 T20 runs for a single team. The milestone was reached during RCB’s crucial match at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium versus the Lucknow Super Giants in Match 70 of the 2025 Indian Premier League.

Since the IPL began in 2008, the seasoned batter has been a part of RCB. Leading from the front, he has evolved into the franchise’s face throughout the years. With 424 runs in the now-defunct Champions League T20 (CLT20) and 8579 runs and counting in the IPL,

Virat Kohli achieved the milestone of 9000 runs in T20s for RCB. In cricket history, he is the first batsman to accomplish this feat for a single T20 side.

Most runs by a batter for single team in T20s

Player  Runs scored Team
Virat Kohli 9004  Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Rohit Sharma 6060  Mumbai Indians
James Vince 5934  Hampshire
Suresh Raina 5529  Chennai Super Kings
MS Dhoni 5314  Chennai Super Kings

The Delhi native, meanwhile, was a serious candidate for the Orange Cap after scoring 548 runs in 12 innings, including seven fifties, prior to the LSG match. Interestingly, this season, RCB had won every game in which Kohli scored fifty runs.

Speaking of the current match, Rishabh Pant’s outstanding 118* from 61 balls forced RCB to chase a lofty total of 228. In the meantime, the Bengaluru-based team will rely largely on their star batsman to win the game and finish in the top two once more.
