Ashutosh Sharma, the Delhi Capitals’ star batter, had a strong start to his English club cricket career by blasting a century off just 70 balls on debut for Wigan Cricket Club. The 26-year-old, who arrived into the UK on the morning of the game, made an impressive debut in the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition on May 31, producing a fighting knock that helped his team recover from a slow start.

Ashutosh, who joined Wigan for the 2025 season as part of the ECB Premier League, batted at No. 5 with his team suffering at 17 for 3 in under 10 overs against Formby Cricket Club. The right-hander teamed up with opener Aveen Dalugoda, and the pair put on a 153-run stand in just 23.4 overs.

Ashutosh Sharma hammered eight fours and six majestic sixes during his century innings.

Batting at a strike rate of nearly 137, he accomplished the record in 70 deliveries before falling for exactly 100 in the 34th over. His dismissal set off a collapse, with Wigan falling from 170 for 3 to 241 all out in the 52nd over. Despite his best efforts, Formby was successful in pursuing the target. Notably, DC mentor Kevin Pietersen tweeted about the batter’s debut on Saturday evening.

Ashutosh arrives in UK today and guess what…? He scores a hundred same day!

Meanwhile, in the IPL 2025, he was acquired by DC for INR 3.8 crore and hammered 204 runs at an average of 29.14 and an imposing strike rate of 160.62. His best knocks came against Lucknow Super Giants, where he smashed an unbeaten 66 off 31 balls, guiding Delhi to a narrow last-over win. However, DC failed to qualify for the playoffs, finishing fifth on the points tally. The 26-year-old has played 14 List A matches, 44 T20s, and eight first-class games, with a highest score of 123 in red-ball cricket.
