The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season opener for Royal Challengers Bangalore included a stunning victory over the five-time champion Mumbai Indians. In the sixth game of the competition, both teams squared off against one another, and the team captained by Faf du Plessis excelled at both the bat and the ball. Bangalore scored a fantastic victory because of the outstanding performances of captain Faf du Plessis and star Indian batsman Virat Kohli after Mumbai scored 171 runs in the first inning.
Du Plessis scored 73 runs off of 43 deliveries, while Kohli scored 82 runs alone in just 49 deliveries. Chris Gayle, a former Royal Challengers Bangalore batter, spoke up regarding the performances of both batters.
JioCinema quoted Chris Gayle as saying, “We know Faf is class. He’s a fantastic captain and a superb player. He has done it all across international cricket as well.
Virat Kohli and Faf, he continued, “are going to feed off each other perfectly. Look at the way they start; they look to drop and run. They pick up their ones and their twos, and by the time the third comes, they’re ready to take it out. That’s something bowlers and teams have to be aware of because, as I’ve said before, you’re guaranteed almost 400 runs.
Suresh Raina observed that MI’s bowling was quite poor.
Former Indian hitter Suresh Raina also spoke about the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Mumbai Indians, commenting on Bangalore’s chase and Mumbai’s subpar bowling effort. He appeared to be very dissatisfied with MI’s subpar bowling. He also clarified the significance of having a strong run rate in the coveted IPL.
“RCB’s run rate later in the competition will benefit from the way they were able to chase down the score in 16 overs,” Raina said. “MI’s bowling looked pretty feeble; it didn’t even look like a wicket would fall.”
Mumbai Indians, the five-time winners, lost to their opponent to start the 2023 IPL. The Rohit Sharma-led team would be eager to outperform themselves in the next few games. As Mumbai takes on the Chennai Super Kings at their den at the Wankhede Stadium, they will be looking to start their winning streak. In the meantime, RCB will be aiming to maintain their winning streak against the renowned Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their upcoming away game.
