After being removed from the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) central contract list for 2024, Tamim Iqbal’s future in Bangladeshi cricket has become increasingly dubious. Tamim’s exclusion from the national squad has sparked concerns about his continued participation, even though young players like Shoriful Islam and recently named captain Najmul Hossain Shanto have obtained all-format deals.
Tamim, one of Bangladesh’s most well-known cricket players, has had a turbulent few months. His relationship with the BCB remained more difficult even after he announced his retirement last year, which was swiftly revoked with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s backing. He did, however, renounce his captaincy and declare his intention to compete in the World Cup.
BCB has released the central contract list for 2024.
The BCB’s central contracts list for 2024 includes twenty-one cricket players; Shoriful and Najmul Shanto secured all-format deals. After suffering a shoulder injury at the previous 50-over World Cup in India, Taskin Ahmed, who previously held a triple deal, now only holds ODI and T20I contracts.
In particular, Tamim’s exclusion from the roster along with Ebadot, Afif, and Mosaddek Hossain casts doubt on their near futures with the national team. The BCB also approved the signing of contracts with a total of 85 players for the 2024 first-class cricket season.
The addition of fresh faces, such as Tanzim Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Naeem Hasan, and Nurul Hasan, indicates BCB’s intention to develop young players and bolster the team.
